Merry Christmas from Chairwoman Moon

The celebration of Christmas is a good time for all Idahoans to recall the first principles that are the foundation of our way of life.

Our rule of law, our freedom of conscience, our defense of the unborn and the vulnerable, all trace back to a humble manger.

The celebration of Christmas reminds us that God’s power is so great that He came to mankind as a helpless child. In His innocence and vulnerability, the Christ child invites all to love Him. The scenes in Bethlehem also call to mind the cross. As Billy Graham once said, “Christmas, to have meaning, cannot be separated from the Cross.”

Indeed, the central message of Christmas is that the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ transforms the world and lays the foundation for all of our civilization’s lasting achievements.

Nearly forty years after the address was first read, I invite you and your family to take time to listen to Ronald Reagan’s Christmas message from 1983. Reagan gives clear voice to the significance of Christmas and how God’s sacrificial love is a central feature of the American story.

With God’s blessings, and His mercy, I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas.
