Biography and Background

A little about me… Raised on a farm (Livestock & Crop Management) in Southern Minnesota. Obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Finance, Real Estate, Insurance & Accounting) from Mankato State (University of MN) working full-time. I relocated to the Northwest in 1999 after traveling the country & being promoted to District Manager of Agency Operations for Federated Insurance Companies. My husband, David Mackey & I moved to Emmett, ID to raise our family in 2003 & started Mackey Electric. In 2005 we renovated 115 N Hayes building, opening Lily Pad Laundromat in 2007 & Toadstool Billiard Cafe in 2008. The local economy hit us all hard. Together, we kept working to support our local community…Gem Chamber, Fairgrounds, PALs, Valor Health, etc… Dave passed away in June after a hard battle with cancer & I promised that I would stay involved.

Emmett / Gem County was once a thriving, self-sustaining community. I believe it can be that again with leadership that has our children & grandchildren’s best interests in mind when making decisions that effect their future with regards to managing growth, land & water resources & taxpaying citizen dollars. I can make a difference in the quality of our community’s future… assuring transparency and accountability within our local government. I will focus on creating job opportunities that support the families of Gem County, so we can work, play, and pray where we live. I believe in doing the RITE things spelled the wrong way… starting with RESPECT, acting with INTEGRITY, TEAMWORK, & attaining EQUITY…which is different for each person in our community. I am ready to ask a lot of hard questions, roll up my sleeves & get to work! Our family chose Emmett, ID over 20 years ago. Please vote May 21st & chose me, Suzanne Mackey for Gem County Commissioner! Thank you!

Top 3 Issues

Issue 1

Gem County was once a self-sustaining community. As County Commissioner, I intend to work with the city of Emmett and the school district to accomplish growth management goals. I would like to bring back jobs so people can work, play and pray where they live. There are many partnerships to explore that would bring more industry to Gem County. We can accomplish many things with the right leadership, a clear vision, and the will of the people. Emmett is often referred to as bedroom community. We have seen an explosion in subdivisions, inadequate infrastructure combined with limited employment opportunities. In short, I believe we can do better and I’m willing to help.

Issue 2

I am committed to a transparent government that is accountable to the people of Gem County. With today’s technology, meetings can be recorded and or live streamed. I will make myself available and ask a lot of tough questions. I believe in doing the RITE things spelled the wrong way. It starts with RESPECT, acting with INTEGRITY, TEAMWORK, & in the end there is EQUITY…which is different for each person in our community!

The border effects are back yard. Supporting our County Sheriff’s department is paramount to ensuring freedom stowed upon us in The Constitution. We need to be prepared for anything that could happen in our future by planning & training. No flying by the seat of our pants and spending just because you’re afraid you’re going to lose it if you don’t use it! We should be willing to work with the school district and the City to eliminate waste and Ensure taxpayer dollars are used efficiently and effectively. I understand the value of hard work, the responsibility of property ownership, the necessity of managing growth and the financial burden of taxation. I will earn your trust!
