Top 3 Issues

Issue 1

Cost-Effective Education: Maintaining low-cost, low-overhead education for students to meet the growing workforce needs in the treasure valley including filling critical positions for additional fire, police, healthcare, and essential community service industries. CWI is the lowest taxpayer burden in the state at just $10 per $100,000, and the lowest cost to students at $139 per credit. CWI is the most affordable option for education, and serves over 30,000 students annually, provides the largest number of dual credits in the state, and runs the POST Academy for law enforcement and fire safety programs.

Issue 2

Career & Technical Education: Continue to grow Career & Technical Education (CTE) offerings for students to concurrently work in the field while pursuing their certifications. This helps meet current staffing and workforce challenges in plumbing, welding, and other trades while providing an income to students while they pursue their education. CWI’s innovative CTE and workforce program is led by an industry advisory board and serves over 1,400 students who are working as apprentices in the field while pursuing their certifications. Workforce studies are the future of education as businesses continue to require “upskilling” and industry evolves to meet the growing population. A four-year degree is necessary for certain professions; however, CWI provides the up-ramp for students to transition into workforce and meaningful careers.

Issue 3

Conservative Spending: While I can appreciate varying ideas on ways to provide free, low-cost, or affordable resources to the community and think that is an important consideration, there needs to be innovative ways in order to fund these options without additional taxpayer burden. Our Idahoan way includes working hard, maintaining responsible budgets, not over-spending, and upholding conservative values in how we approach solutions.
