Biography and Background

I am seeking re-election to the House after serving the last two years representing District 23, which formerly included Elmore County, Owyhee and Twin Falls counties.

I am excited about representing the new district including Valley, Boise, Custer and Elmore Counties, I have focused on Water, Agriculture, Economic Growth and supporting Mountain Home AFB. With these new counties in my District, I will be expanding my focus to other areas such as Outdoor Recreation, Forestry, and Natural Resources.

In addition to my legislative duties, I currently teach American Government for the Mountain Home School District. I was chosen in 2020 as the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) as the National Civics Teacher of the Year. I also worked with the United States Department of State as an exchange teacher in Ukraine. I served 20 years in the Air Force as a combat aviator in B-52 and B-1 bombers and flew combat sorties in Afghanistan post 9/11. I have coached high school baseball and basketball and served on the Mountain Home City Council from 2016 to 2021.

I currently serve on the Joint Appropriations and Finance Committee, Local Government Committee and Business Committee. It was my honor this session to sponsor and carry on the House floor House joint Memorial 006 in support of the freedom loving people of Ukraine in the desire for freedom and self determination. This session I am carrying approximately 20 budgets through the House Chamber on topics ranging from the Department of Veterans Services to the Idaho Commission on Aging.

It is my desire to continue to serve Idaho and the great people who live here.

Top 3 Issues

Issue 1

Water. Water is the very life blood of this state. I work closely with the Department of Water Services on water projects that will benefit Idaho agriculture, growth and industry into the future. I carried the budget legislation that provides for Mountain Home Air Force Base establishing its own independent water treatment plant. Thereby enhancing the long term viability of the base. We are expanding the water capacity at Anderson Ranch Dam and also future and ongoing aquifer recharge projects.

Issue 2

Education. Our students need many paths to success. I have been a strong advocate of vocational training and focusing resources on giving students the opportunity to receive career ready skills. We also need to make sure we create a path forward for students that want to attend post high school education. Preparation for University level studies is also an important part of our educational goals. Idaho is also developing great post high school vocational training options where students can earn career ready certificates and go quickly into the work force.

Issue 3

Proper function of government. It is important that we are always focusing on what we do in government and ensure that we are ensuring that the proper level of government is afforded the ability to make the decisions for their constituents. We have the greatest form of government ever devised and it is our responsibility to ensure that the People are well represented and that they maintain their freedoms and liberties as outlined in our the great Constitution. Protecting self determination and individual responsibility are at the core of every decision I make. Actually, as I write this, this really is the over arching issue of everything I do as an elected official.
