Biography and Background

Dan grew up in the suburbs of Atlanta, Ga. before attending the U.S. Air Force Academy and then serving as a pilot in the Air Force, including wartime service in Desert Storm. He likes to say that his dad taught him the value of hard work and his mom the value of honesty. He has been a commercial pilot for over two decades and lives in SE Boise. His wife was born and raised in Boise. They’ve been married 31 years and have two wonderful boys. Both boys are Eagle Scouts.

Dan has served his community as an assistant Scoutmaster, civic association president, chair of a church early childhood education program, and most recently as the treasurer of Boise’s oldest non-profit providing a home to the very low income.

Dan first visited Idaho in 1991 and it was love at first sight. He would be immensely proud to serve her and the citizens of District 18 in the state senate.

Top 3 Issues

Issue 1

Fiscal responsibility – ensure that state government remains focused on its constitutional duties and fulfills those duties as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible.

Issue 2

Education – We must support our great teachers with the pay and benefits they deserve. And every family should be able to choose the right educational path for their unique child. That path to success isn’t possible without a tight bond between talented teachers and dedicated parents. Let’s strengthen that bond and make it the cornerstone of Idaho’s future.

Issue 3

Lands – I will work with farmers, ranchers, other property owners, and government entities to ensure Idaho’s public lands are preserved, protected and welcoming for every citizen.

“I have read the Idaho Constitution and the Idaho Republican Party Platform. Except for the provisions specifically noted below, I support the Idaho Republican Party Platform and accept it as the standard by which my performance as a candidate and as an officeholder should be evaluated. I certify that I am not a candidate, officer, delegate or position holder in any party other than the Republican Party.”
Article 1.2.I…I do not support repeal of the 16th amendment. Income taxes are a fundamental part of funding our national defense.

Article 1.3.C…I do not support repeal of the 17th amendment. Electing US senators by popular vote aligns with our founding principles of democratic process.

Article 1.4.A…Reform is needed, but multiple periods of economic chaos have shown a need for a federal “lender of last resort”. Also, events post Bretton Woods show that a true gold standard is impractical and potentially destabilizing.

Article 14.3.A…I support the Idaho Chooses Life position.
