Call to Civic Duty: Voter Engagement Crucial in Times of Uncertainty

We live in perilous times. With the threat of war abroad and a literal invasion taking place on our southern border, we desperately need leaders who will speak the truth and hold those in power to account.

Earlier this week, the Idaho House of Representatives had an opportunity to make a strong statement that the Biden Administration’s deliberate failure to enforce our border security is unacceptable. House Joint Memorial 11 told the unvarnished truth about the eight million illegal aliens that have crossed our southern border since President Biden took office, and placed the blame for that where it belongs: the Executive Branch of the federal government.

The memorial called upon Congress to impeach President Biden and hold him accountable for his willful facilitation of this crisis that has brought crime and drugs into our communities.

You can imagine how disappointed I was to see this memorial fail to pass the House because 24 Republican lawmakers voted against it.

That wasn’t the only disappointment this week. The House considered a resolution to amend the state constitution to say once and for all that the candidate with the most votes wins the election. This would have preempted the Rigged Choice Voting initiative that is still circulating in our state, the initiative whose backers have admitted is all about getting more moderates and leftists elected.

This very same body passed a strong prohibition on Ranked Choice Voting just last year, with every Republican save one supporting the bill. You would think that proposing a constitutional amendment to the voters that says the same thing would be a no brainer, right?

Apparently not. Sixteen Republicans voted against the resolution, causing it to fall short of the two-thirds supermajority necessary to put it on the ballot.

What is going on here? Why are our Republican lawmakers constantly voting with Democrats against common sense conservative legislation?

Remember the Rocky Mountain Heist in Colorado? Well, we’re seeing the Gem State Heist taking place before our very eyes. Too many Republicans are voting with Democrats, pushing our state further and further to the left, while telling their voters that they are traditional conservatives.

The only way to fix this problem is for voters like you to get engaged. Get to know your legislators, figure out their principles, and pay attention to the way they vote. In the end, it’s your decision as to who represents you in Boise, so I hope you will do your due diligence.

It’s not enough to talk the talk, our representatives need to walk the walk. The future of our state, and our country, depends on it.
