Everyone complains about politics, but how many of us actually do anything about it? Voter turnout this past week was high in some counties, but still represented less than half of registered voters. Why is there such apathy toward the political process? Politics has a bad reputation. You can’t go a week without some leftist hit piece on network news or a disaffected official taking to the editorial pages to slam his own party. It makes it look like the political process is all about name calling and infighting rather than working to protect the rights of the people of Idaho. But politics is only as good as the people involved, so we need better candidates. Too often, candidates portray themselves as conservatives on the campaign trail only to renege on those principles once in office. Is it any wonder that voters think the political process is broken? What is a good citizen to do? Turning out to vote is great, but maybe it’s time you took the next step and stood for public office yourself. Elective office was never meant to be restricted to certain classes or groups of people, but is open to all. Voters are desperately looking for men and women who practice what they preach and truly serve the people rather than the special interests. Don’t wait for someone else to do the job. If you’re looking around the room at a Lincoln Day Dinner or conservative event wondering who should step up to protect our Idaho values, look in the mirror — maybe it’s your time! We can’t take our freedoms for granted. Thousands of people are moving to Idaho because they believe we are a conservative state that cares for the unborn, protects our 2nd amendment rights, and stands up to the national, state, and local political establishment. But those values will quickly disappear if nobody stands up to protect them. Don’t think it can’t happen here. Your new neighbors will tell you that they once thought it couldn’t happen in California, in Oregon, or in Colorado, but it did. Those beautiful states, full of people who loved the same liberties we cherish in Idaho, fell to the anti-American ideas of woke leftism.. Preventing the same thing from happening here requires action on your part — don’t assume someone else will take care of it. Make no mistake: Idaho is the next target for the totalitarian left. Whether your ancestors came here six generations ago or you moved here this year, it’s time to take action. Vote. Donate. Volunteer. Run for office. Our founding fathers gave us a republic, if we can keep it. That’s not a charge you leave in the hands of lawmakers, government officials, or political parties. The future of Idaho is in your hands. |
