IDGOP Statement on former, retired and defeated Republicans endorsing Democrats

October 11, 2022

Boise, ID —

In response to reports that former, retired, and defeated Republican officials are endorsing the Democrat candidate for Idaho Attorney General:

“The Legacy Media proves once again it is stuck in the 1990s, when it was last relevant. Their headlines claim new support for radical statewide Democrats while double and even triple counting names.

Nearly 250,000 people have moved into Idaho over the last few years. The people who are making Idaho their home don’t recognize any of the names trumpeted by the Legacy Media. But they do want Republican leaders like Raúl Labrador who will fight inflation, bring relief at the pumps, and defend Idaho’s way of life from federal overreach.

It’s no surprise this story is being picked up by national news outlets. These former Republicans are partisan defenders of Joe Biden’s radical policies, including federal ownership of Idaho land; critical race theory; and destroying the opportunity for Idaho’s girls to compete in women’s sports. But the national media cannot obfuscate what’s really happening, like the national news that former Democrat presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard is leaving the Democrat Party because of its radical agenda.

The Republican Party held a free and fair primary, and Republicans convincingly chose their candidate for Idaho Attorney General. The Republican Party continues to enthusiastically support  Raúl Labrador. If individual Republicans have decided to support another candidate publicly, then they should reconsider whether they are Republicans. We have procedures for conducting primaries and losing in that process — and any hurt feelings that come with losing — shouldn’t be reason to endorse the radical agenda of Joe Biden’s Democrat Party, including supporting a political opportunist running for Idaho AG who stands for many things that are diametrically opposed to the Republican Party’s platform and the interests of Idaho’s hardworking families.”
